Enjoy mulled wine with members and your guests while Leanne Wallace, a Tasmanian member, introduces Steven Joyce, her partner who has been the Director of Despard Gallery for thirty three years.

Steven will be able to take the perceived elitism from the art world to enable everyone who may not always feel comfortable when asked “what do you think of that painting” to be at home in a gallery.

During his time as Director of Despard Gallery, Steven has organised over three hundred exhibitions mounted with a wide variety of artists and mediums in Hobart, Melbourne, Chicago, Sydney and New York and has seen Tasmanian artists represented to an incredibly diverse range of people- experts- enthusiastic collectors to “I don’t know what it is but I like it……”

The concept of the evening is to have an informal discussion with anecdotal tales of the unexpected, give you an inside look at some of Stevens favourite art and objects and hear from him about the satisfaction of launching young artists on to the national stage.
